Self-Employed Builder with Irregular Income

Clients: Lisa & Mark T. – (ASB Bank)

The
Challenge:

Mark is a self-employed builder whose income varies significantly from year to year due to seasonal work and fluctuating contracts. Despite having a profitable business, banks were hesitant to approve a mortgage due to the irregular nature of his earnings.

The
Solution:

We worked with ASB to present Mark’s financials in a way that highlighted his average earnings over the past three years, rather than just focusing on the most recent tax return. We also structured the mortgage with a slightly larger deposit and a split-loan option to give them repayment flexibility.

The
Outcome:

ASB approved their mortgage, allowing Lisa and Mark to buy their home. With the right financial planning, they can now manage their repayments comfortably, even during slower months in Mark’s business.
